I have a new blog! All posts will be done here from now on.

I am completely blown away by Tara Donovan's work. It is definitely
worth a long looksy! Make sure you check out the materials used for
each piece.

On the homefront, I am working on a new commission. Thinking of bees!
I should have it posted in a couple of weeks. Busy getting greeting
cards out to retailers in other cities and will be having a show with
my friend Katie O'brien at Modern on Main in late March!
More details to come.

2006 resolution: to blog once a week! WE'll see what
happens. This is work from Andrea Zittel. I've been a
long time fan of her work and just missed her "critical
space" show in Houston. The bottom right picture is a
breeding unit for Bantam chickens! Check her out. Andrea Zittel

Grow-a-Note greeting cards are now in the shop!

This is the ultimate "one-touch session" as in getting
rid of your piles of clutter around the house by touching
them once. They either go into the trash or into their proper
place. In this case the proper place being your backyard!

Wildflower seeds are in the paper and you actually plant
the card. Love it, love it! I'm trying to change over everything I can
to a more eco-friendly studio. These cards are obviously
100% biodegradable and come with 100% recycled
envelopes packaged in cellophane sleeves. Cellophane is
made from wood pulp making it 100% biodegradable and
compostable.
Wow!

I've added another 'cake' to the mix! This one is dedicated
to the orange bear Cosmo (dog) as he awaits the arrival of
his new playmate. Commissioned by my friend Suz for Trevor
and Michael. Hello Trevor! Can't wait to see pics of the little one.

Thanks again Suz!!

I could not have said this any better, from my dear friend Liz. Please help however you can.

Last night we attended yet another peace rally downtown. It boggles the mind that this effort in Iraq has been going on for years...

The speaker was Cindy Sheehan – she’s left her camp outside of George Bush’s Crawford Ranch and she’s on her way to Washington, D.C. with a few busloads of supporters. The rally was spirited and mellow at the same time – Austin musicians singing, our kids waving signs and chanting, “Peace and Love!”

In the crowd, I bumped into a good friend who’s originally from Louisiana. She told me that before 9/11, FEMA considered the levees in Louisiana their top priority. Needless to say, financial resources have been otherwise directed. Likewise, National Guardsmen and -women who are always essential players in a disaster of this magnitude are too far afield to help.

Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster, but it is utterly heartbreaking to think that our misguided attempts at security abroad have diminished our capacity to protect ourselves and further compounded the tragedy in New Orleans. Add this to the chaos and daily loss of innocent lives in Iraq – on both sides of the conflict – and it’s gotten darn hard to find a bright side.

Please consider making immediate donations to the Red Cross, Mercy Corps or your disaster charity of choice. But, at the same time, now is as good a time as any to tell the administration to end the occupation of Iraq and bring US troops back home.

Best,
Liz

I'm actually blogging from the studio!!! It looks amazing,
so full of light and modern simplicity. Now the challenge
will be to find furniture to live up to the studio. What can
I say? My heart goes out to Tallman!

Cakes are now available at Moxie and the Compound
909 W. Mary
Austin TX.

I'll be adding more designs to the shop, so check back
often!

Father's Day!

T

Bad blogger, BAD! I really don't know how people find the time
to update their blogs everyday. I'm envious. Here are two photos
of the studio in progress. Whoever said this project would start
and finish in the month of March was a flaming bobo! The studio
is actually much further along than these photos show, I just
haven't had a chance to shoot some pics. Keith (famous hubby,
famous to me) has basically pulled this whole thing off from a
book and a lot of wing'n it. All the sheathing is up and insulated.
Drywall and electrical are next, then paint and glaze the concrete
floor, then MOVE IN! I don't really care how long it takes to put
up the siding as long as I'm in-the-house!

Here is my latest design for another commissioned cake for my
lovely friends Alison, Cliff, Eva Claire and Henry. click here to see
the final caked version.

Illustration Friday's theme "Sorrow"

Ugh. I'm not very happy with this, I rushed to get
an image in by today. This drawing is from the dummy of my
picture book Checkerspot. Very literal for this week's theme.
The good news is, the reason why I didn't have time to hash out
something beautiful is because I'm working on two jobs!! One is
a commission and the other is designing a baby shower invite.
I'll post both soon.

Valentine's Day 2005

My grandmother Irene Scott left us for greener pastures
this past week. I'm sure this is a special Valentine's day

as she has finally joined my grandfather. Together again!
Over seventy years they spent side by side on planet earth
and who knows how many
years to come.

To see a 2 minute movie of my grandfather talking about his
happiest memory click here
Be warned the image is very dark. Damn that camera operator!

Happy Valentine's Day Nana and Conner! We will miss you
dearly.

And you Keith! I hope I'm still staring at that big boxer
nose of yours I love so much, seventy years from now.

My grandfather Conner and that fat baby is my dad.

I came across these photos of my son's first room. We lived
in Echo Park ( Echo BARK to the pit bulls) in this great
spanish style castle built in the early 1900's, split into
four apartments. The apartment was amazing but the second
bedroom was the size of a larg walk-in closet. Thank god for
high ceilings. We had no money but my nesting urge was bringing
down the walls. I came up with this design and now looking
back I'm still quite proud of it. My friend Nathalie and my lovely
husband painted perfect semi-circles!

Thanks Ron, Pamela, and Pablo for making LA home. We miss you!

Yet another reason to move to Canada! While entertaining myself
by perusing Lori Joy Smith's blog, I came across Monster Farm.
These guys are adorable!! I want a whole bed of them.

Click here to see Monster Factory and Monsterfarms!

Sorry America, does this hurt my chances of getting hired? :)

When you live in a 970 square foot house your studio becomes
collaborative with whoever may be around fumbling through your
desk drawers, eyeing your most precious art supplies.

So I had to boast!

Do I have a little Picasso on my hands or what? This drawing
was made by my four year old after he grabbed a 40
piece stack of white paper and furiously scribbled until he finished
the last page, threw down his magic marker “DONE!.”
There’s something to this repetitive thing...

Here’s the bunny! Thanks Nat for finding the appropriate pics!
